Description
"Spring" is not a true portrait, but rather, a representation of a Chinese woman. She is wearing a traditional Chinese New Years' spring celebration dress. Her hair is tied with peonies. The color red and the peonies are traditionally considered lucky and hope for rich life. The dress is hand knitted with faces of the dragon (on the left) and celebration masks. The dragon in China means power and is a symbol used by emperors from long ago. The background represents another Chinese new years tradition. In China people will place similar images on their front doors to express wishes for a fruitful new year. In the upper left corner is a man holding a big coin for wealth, there is a calendar painted on the other corner and below the calendar is a symbol wishing for world peace and happiness in the new year.
